New York Republican congressman Chris Lee resigned after Gawker published a shirtless photo the congressman sent to a woman he met through Craigslist.
Lee, who is married, allegedly attempted an extramarital affair by responding to personals in the ‘Women Seeking Men’ section of the popular online classifieds website.
Lee’s alleged response to the ad read as follows:
Hope I'm not a toad. :) i'm a very fit fun classy guy. Live in Cap Hill area. 6ft 190lbs blond/blue. 39.. Lobbyist. I promise not to disappoint.
Lee is actually forty-six years old.
Hacked emails led to fall from grace
Lee quickly stepped down when the email and photo came to light.
Lee’s office reported a security breach last month, in which hackers may have obtained access to Lee’s Gmail account and thus to his emails.
Lee’s resignation statement read:
It has been a tremendous honor to serve the people of Western New York. I regret the harm that my actions have caused my family, my staff and my constituents. I deeply and sincerely apologize to them all. I have made profound mistakes and I promise to work as hard as I can to seek their forgiveness...The challenges we face in Western New York and across the country are too serious for me to allow this distraction to continue, and so I am announcing that I have resigned my seat in Congress effective immediately.
Lee affair similar to past sex scandal
This incident is similar to the Bishop Eddie Long sex scandal, in which young boys accused the anti-gay Atlanta megachurch pastor of pederasty and photos of Long posing in the bathroom mirror emerged.
Long has thus far managed to hang onto his job, unlike Lee who decided to resign. No word yet on whether an actual lobbying job is in the scandalized former congressman’s future.

This is almost comical. Is he actually flexing in his picture?! I don't understand why seemingly intelligent people would give up everything and ruin not only their lives, but the lives around them. Perhaps instead of placing an ad, he should have placed a call...to a therapist!

He resigned so quickly because this isn't the first time this has happened. Either that or he's embarrassed by his lack of musculature. I've seen better breasts on chickens.

Who wants to guess that there were possibly some "other types" of photos he sent to this woman, too? She might actually have enough class though, to have put them under the rug so as not to make the situation worse than it was.
Sorry to make a political comment, but why is it when Dems cheat on their wives they at least try to cover it up, but Repubs get caught so much easier??

The idea of male Repub politicians having illicit sex with women is causing so much cognitive dissonance I may have to take the rest of the day off.
