Republic F.C. will host the Fuego in the 3rd round of the 2014 U.S. Open Cup

The Sacramento Republic F.C. will face the Fresno Fuego in the third round of the 2014 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The game will be held on May 28 and it will be played at Cosumnes River College's Stadium with a scheduled 7:30 P.M. kick-off. Sacramento reached the 3rd round by defeating the Ventura County Fusion 2-1 whilst the Fresno Fuego earned a berth with a 2-0 win over the Orange County Blues F.C. The Fuego are a USL Premier Developmental League (fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid) and the Republic is playing its first season.

This will be the first time since 2003 that the Fuego have made it past the second round. Sacramento is looking to go far in the tournament and is striving to make an impressive showing in Cup play. Republic F.C.'s head coach Preki is serving the second of a two-game suspension from the U.S. Cup and the team will be lead by assistant coach Rod Underwood. The winner of the match will face the San Jose Earthquakes in the fourth round on June 11 at Kezar Stadium.
