The Sacramento Republic F. C. will host the Ventura County Fusion (USL Premier Development League) on May 14th in a second round match up of the 2014 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tournament play. The game will be played at the Republic's training facility located at Cosumnes River College Stadium. Ventura County defeated Club Deportivo Aguiluchos U.S.A. (National Premier Soccer League) 2-1 Wednesday in first round action to face off against the Republic. The winner of the contest will play in the third round on May 28.
The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is a tournament open to U.S.S.F. affiliated teams from amateur to professional soccer clubs. The history of the cup can be traced back to the American Football Association founded in 1884. Eighty teams will compete in a single elimination tournament featuring 42 amateur and 38 professional soccer clubs. Last year's winner was the D.C. United who defeated Real Salt Lake 1-0. Sacramento Republic F.C.'s head coach Predrag “Preki” Radosavljević has been suspended from the first two matches of Cup play due to a 2009 incident whilst coaching Chivas U.S.A.
Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 P.M. and tickets are just $10 with Season ticket holders getting first priority. The general public will have a chance to purchase the remaining seats if available.
