The Sacramento Republic F.C. will host the visiting First Division soccer team of Liga MX; Club Atlas this Sunday evening at Bonney Field. This match will be the first of several "friendlys" the Republic will host against visiting international association football clubs from around the globe. Sacramento will also face-off against Rangers F.C. from Scotland and the West Bromwich Albion F.C. from England later on this month. Sunday's game is scheduled to kick-off at 6:30 P.M. and it'll be a warm one so be prepared.
Club Atlas is managed by former Mexican football midfielder Tomas Boy who is back with the team after resigning from the team on May 13, 2013 . He was also a player/coach for the original San Jose Earthquakes of the North American Soccer League and a star for the Tigres UANL (98 career goals). Atlas finished the second half of the 2013-2014 season in 12th place with a record of 5-6-6, in the first half Atlas' record was 1-7-9 with a 15th place finished. Club Atlas is coming in the 2014-2015 looking to once again climb the ranks of the Liga MX and participating in the Jalisco Cup which will be held in Estadio Jalisco on July 10 through 12.
Sacramento is not only looking to gain some association football experience from playing Club Atlas, but hopes the momentum will carry over into Monday night's rescheduled USL Pro game against the Orange County Blues F.C. Friday night's Fourth of July game was scratched due to a raging wildfire near Cal Expo and Bonney Field. Due to the ash and smoke, conditions for the game were deemed hazardous and it was rescheduled for Monday at 7:30 P.M. Both games are sold out and there will be no tickets sold at the box office.
