Sacramento Republic F.C. defeated the Dayton Dutch Lions 2-1 Sunday night in West Carrollton, Ohio. A win would loosen up the log jam in the USL Pro and move Sacramento up in the standings. The Republic scored first in the 13th minute of the game when Dakota Collins (assisted by Rodrigo Lopez) put one passed the Lions' goalie. The Lions would score on a penalty kick (Aaron Schoefeld) in the 44th minute and would tie the game heading into the half 1-1.

The Republic came out of the break pressing Dayton's defense by keeping them on their heels. Sacramento would strike again in the 51st minute with a debut goal scored by Octavio Guzman (assisted by Rodrigo Lopez) giving them a 2-1 lead. The Lions would continue to press and harass the Republic until the final minute of the game. They gave it a good effort but they couldn't break through the tight defensive goalie play of Dominik Jakubek.

With the win, Sacramento improves to 6-3-1 and moves up into a tie for second place with the Richmond Kickers. The Republic returns home to play in the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play tournament against the Fresno Fuego. The game will be played at Cosumnes River College Stadium and tickets are just $10. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 P.M. and tickets can be purchased at, at the door or for more information.
