Sacramento Republic F.C. was eliminated in the fourth round Wednesday night by the San Jose Earthquakes 2-1. A crowd of 3,788 fans watched from the stands of Kezar Stadium as the two clubs battled it out for a chance to advance to the fifth round of the 2014 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Sacramento drew first blood in the contest when Justin Braun scored a goal in the 42nd minute (assisted by Chad Bartlomé). San Jose came back to tie it in the 45th minute when Khari Stephenson scored on a penalty kick.

The score remained tied at one going into the second half. Both teams were pushing it up and down the pitch. In the 73rd minute, Earthquakes midfielder Cordell Cato scored a solo goal giving San Jose a 2-1 lead. Sacramento was on the move until Chad Bartlomé received his second yellow card of the game and was ejected. Down to only ten eligible players, the Republic F.C. continued to press the Earthquakes but were unable to penetrate their defense as San Jose held on for the win.

Sacramento will travel to Oklahoma City to face the Energy F.C. this Saturday.
