On October 2, 2013 Representative Tom Cole (OK-4) sent a statement to his constituents regarding the government shutdown and the standoff between the House of Representatives and the Senate over the Continuing Resolution (CR) to fund the government past September 30th. Most Oklahoma legislators had made statements prior to the shutdown.
In the statement Cole explains the issues in plain language for the average person to understand. He explained what a government shutdown means as far as the lack of funding to keep many government agencies open. He then provides a timeline for the most recent standoff over funding the government which was the Continuing Resolution that would have funded the entire government except the Patient Protection Affordable Care Act (PPACA) otherwise known as ObamaCare.
However, Cole never mentioned how he voted on the legislation. Nor did he state his position for the immediate future. He did not state if he would stand strong with the constitutional conservative wing of the Republican Party or if he would give in and vote with the Democrats on a compromise.
