On the night of the 2014 NCAA Championship, John Calipari is preparing his Kentucky Wildcats to face off with the UCONN Huskies, but there may be bigger news on the horizon. The Courier-Journal reported late on April 7, 2014, that John Calipari may be on his way out of college and heading into the professional ranks, and that may be as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.
Former UK and NBA star Rex Chapman has turned announcer, but he appears to have some inside info as well. He's managed to send the fans in blue into a state of panic and has them wondering what is to come in the future.
Chapman hopped on Twitter and posted:
"Was messin' 'round on Sat nite re: Cal. But word is - win or lose 2nite - it's a #DoneDeal...Cal 2 La-La-Land 2 coach Mamba's Lakers. #NoBS."
It's a little late for April Fool's jokes, and it hasn't been confirmed anywhere else, but one has to wonder just where Chapman got his info from.
These are the types of rumors that have been swirling for years now, and Calipari has always stayed put in Kentucky. Still, the way he has managed to get his young team past all the critics and into the championship game is nothing short of impressive.
Only time will tell.
