The Star Ledger of Newark, New Jersey is reporting this afternoon that the funeral for the late Whitney Houston will be held at the home of the New Jersey Devils, the Prudential Center. The paper reports a local community leader as the source.
Houston was born in Newark, New Jersey and the family has confirmed that the funeral will be held in the city, but has not specified a location just yet.
The Prudential Center is typically home to the New Jersey Devils, but the 18,500 seat venue will be transformed into a place of rememberance for the singing legend similar to what was done in the Staples Center for the funeral of Michael Jackson, and the location seems logical because it is the largest indoor venue in Newark. There has been no word from the Devils on this report.
Whitney Houston was found dead in her Beverly Hills hotel room on Sunday afternoon with her head submerged in the bath tub. She was 48 years old. An autopsy has been completed, but the results are on hold pending toxicology results. Local police said there were, "no obvious signs of criminal intent."
According to TMZ, reports are that Whitney had been drinking the night before and authorities believe a combination of Xanax and alcohol could have fatally sedated her.
