The spread of H1N1 swine flu in Utah seems to be declining, at least for the last week, according to a report released yesterday by the Utah Department of Health (UDOH). The UDOH reported that the percentage of patients who came into clinics with flu like symptoms dropped by half, and H1N1 hospitalizations had a dramatic decrease as well.
The percentage of patients visiting clinics with flu like symptoms dropped to 4.5% for the week ending October 31, down from 9.4% the week before. 59 people were hospitalized with H1N1 last week, compared to 98 the week before.
14 people have died in Utah from H1N1 (up from 12 last week) so far in this flu season, this does not include the 18 people that died prior to the current flu season that began September 1, 2009, according to UDH in a report released yesterday.
In Utah, the H1N1 flu is still widespread, and health officials still recommend getting the vaccine when available, and taking preventive steps to avoid catching the flu.
The two Utah women that died in the last week from H1N1 were between the ages of 50 and 64, one in Salt Lake County and from the Weber-Morgan Health District.
Another 78,600 doses of vaccine are expected in Utah in the next week.
