"To be recognized for something that took place in my professional life is something that’s special and I think particularly special from the standpoint of me growing up in San Francisco and being a 49ers fan,” Seifert said in a statement. “It’s a special thing; there’s no question about that.”
Seifert spent 17 seasons with the 49ers after joining the franchise in 1980 as the team’s secondary coach before he became the head coach in 1989. In his eight seasons as the team's head coach, Seifert was 98-30 in the regular season and had the most wins for a head coach in his first three years with 38. Jim Harbaugh is in second place with 36 wins in his first three seasons.
Seifert also had two Super Bowl victories during his eight year tenure and is one of three coaches in NFL history to win a Super Bowl during his first year as head coach.
The induction ceremony for Seifert will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2014. He will be recognized during halftime of the game against the visiting St. Louis Rams on November 2 in Week 9 at Levis® Stadium.
