If we are to believe the latest coming from sources dishing to Bloomberg, RIM is going to be launching a challenger to Apple’s iPad sometime in November, although no specific release date was given.

Of course.

They did however mention a name as well as some of its specifications. First and foremost, they plan on calling the device, the Blackpad, a name that surfaced when it was discovered that RIM had purchase the blackpad.com domain name.

Horrible name, let’s hope they change it.

Here is how the tablet, companion tablet mind you, is described:

The device will have roughly the same dimensions as the iPad, which has a 9.7-inch diagonal screen, said the two people who wouldn’t be identified because the plans haven’t been made public. The device will include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless technology that will allow people to use their BlackBerry smartphones to connect to the Internet, the two people said.

So, that’s that.

And as an FYI, the report also confirmed that BlackBerry and AT&T will be introducing the not-so-secret BlackBerry 9800 slider next week at their joint event.

I have a hard time seeing the BlackPad give the iPad any kind of competition especially if it doesn’t have a 3G version.

I guess we’ll see in November though.

Makes me think of the Palm Folieo. Does not look promising.

I'm guessing you like Apple based on your comments.

Either way, Blackpad is not a bad name at all. I like it a lot. I like it a lot more than i[ObjectName].

And it's a great idea for business persons who mostly use BlackBerry's anyway if they can tether it. Paying a contract on another 3G device is unnecessary.

Last but not least, and only just my opinion, but I'm sure the marketers at RIM have a better idea than you do of what will compete with Apple.

Too much technology. Nobody is gonna buy it. People only bought the iPad because it was made of Apple.

This whole report is sketchy. I call fake on it all.

i think endgadget had the same rumor a little while ago. blackpad domain does not come up as a rim owned domain via a whois search, just some company in nova scotia.
