Report: PS4 controller has touchpad on front, console launch by Christmas

Sources with EDGE Magazine reportedly confirmed touchscreen features for the Playstation 4 controller Friday plus a late 2013 release for North America and early 2014 launch for Europe.

According to EDGE sources, the PS4 controller will be approximately the same size as the existing DualShock 3 controller but will place a small touchpad on the frontside of the controller where the current start, select and Playstation buttons currently reside. The touchpad reportedly uses the same technology features on the PS Vita's rear touchpad.

The new controller will also feature a "Share" button as was revealed in a previous leak. This new button will allow gamers to share videos and screenshots online. The Playstation 4 will allow players to record up to 15 minutes of video which can then be edited and shared.

Sony is expected to announce the new console during an event scheduled for Feb. 20 and EDGE says that it will be released before Christmas in North America. In reality, that means before Thanksgiving so that the console will be out in time for the all important Black Friday shopping weekend.

The European release reportedly will not happen until early 2014 due to the "complexities involved in European distribution."
