While the Obama Administration pitted itself against the citizens of Arizona in a lawsuit and a report to the U.N. concerning possible 'human rights' violations over the state's attempt to protect itself from the siege from the southern border, a report issued by a Sheriff in the area indicates that parts of Arizona are now controlled by violent Mexican drug cartels.
According to Sheriff Paul Babeu, whose county lies in the middle of drug and human smuggling routes to Phoenix, deputies are outgunned and outmanned by the dangerous criminal element that has taken full advantage of failure of the federal government to secure the southern border.
The Sheriff provided the following assessment:
'"Mexican drug cartels literally do control parts of Arizona," he said. "They literally have scouts on the high points in the mountains and in the hills and they literally control movement. They have radios, they have optics, they have night-vision goggles as good as anything law enforcement has.
'"This is going on here in Arizona," he said. "This is 70 to 80 miles from the border - 30 miles from the fifth-largest city in the United States."'
In response to the Sheriff's request for 3000 National Guard troops to help seal the border and assist law enforcement with the foreign drug cartels, the Obama Administration sent instead 30 Guard troops and 15 signs.
The signs read as follows:
'"DANGER - PUBLIC WARNING, TRAVEL NOT RECOMMENDED, Visitors May Encounter Armed Criminals and Smuggling Vehicles Traveling at High Rates of Speed."'
The signs are tantamount to the surrender of the Obama Administration to lawless criminal thugs--illegal aliens--who have not only invaded one of our own states but are engaging in disturbing acts of violence against U.S. citizens and Mexican immigrants living in Arizona.
When the signs first appeared in parts of Arizona in June, an outraged Governor Jan Brewer produced a TV ad blasting the Administration over the signs. A video was produced showing Brewer standing in front of one of the signs castigating Barack Obama for this brazen act of essentially writing off portions of our own country to the control of criminal illegal aliens.
Further, in a special report filed by Conservative Examiner in July, photos were posted of a seizure of missile launchers, grenades, explosives, and guns left behind by a cartel just prior to the raid, which took place just across the border from Laredo, Texas.
Officials stated that the cache of weapons were found at a para-military camp operated by a Mexican drug cartel only a short distance from Laredo.
In spite of these brazen acts of violence and clear invasion of the U.S. by lawless Mexican criminals, the Obama/Clinton state department reported to the U.N. that Arizona's new law designed to protect itself, and the federal government's lawsuit against the state, is an example of now the U.S. deals with possible human rights violations.
Apparently the Administration does not believe that an outright invasion of the U.S. from the south, due directly to the federal government's failure to do its sworn duty to protect our borders, constitutes the violation of the human rights of American citizens who are in harms' way at the hands of illegal aliens.

Anthony, your article is absolutely accurate. Thank you for the great reporting.
My friends in Phoenix and in Kingman are keeping me updated on the border issue from an Arizona perspective......all is not what the media would like you to believe. Case in point.... Barry O.'s hand puppet D.H.S. Secretary Janet A. Napolitano would have us think that we could go have a picnic somewhere in the southern reaches of the Tono O'Odham Indian Reservation.......I will when she does ! Exactly like the Gulf oil spill clean up being a total scam by B.P., F.E.M.A. and Barry O., we now have D.H.S. assuring us that things are better at our borders, all the while Barry O. , Eric Holder and their operative Rahm Emanuel conspire against the governor and the people of Arizona and OUR nation by implementing law suits, and taking states issues before the U.N.'s Human Rights Council. The current administration runs ripshod over OUR nation, our people and more importantly OUR Constitution. It is indeed time to impeach the facade some are willing to call Mr. President !
Good insight, Phil!
That's THIS Phil roberts, right? The one accusing city officials of inflating the numbers to get stimulus money?
"The battle started this week, when Phoenix police Sgt. Phil Roberts, a 24-year veteran of the force sent a memo to the Phoenix City Manager accusing the department of inflating the kidnapping numbers to get $1.7 million in stimulus money."

Yep, and not a single one of them sources the claim of being the #2 city for kidnapping and trafficking. Thanks for proving my point.
The #2 kidnapping claim is urban legend which has indeed, as you stated, been widely reported in the media. If you can find a definitive source proving that, I'd love to see it. But numerous debunkings have been done.
For example,
http://www.politifact.com/texas/statements/2010/jun/28/john-mccain/mccai...
From the article linked in the last comment:
"There were 358 reported kidnappings in 2008 (10 fewer than reported by the LA Times, due to later reclassification of the crimes), 318 in 2009 and there were 105 from January through May 2010, he said, putting the city on track to sustain less than 300 this year."
and
"Scott Stewart, vice president of tactical intelligence for Stratfor, an Austin-based global intelligence company, separately chimed in: 'According to our analysts, there is no way that Phoenix is the No. 2 city in the world for kidnapping and there are significantly more kidnappings in many other cities throughout Latin America,' he said. 'San Salvador, Guatemala City, Bogota as well as several cities in Mexico certainly have higher kidnapping rates than Phoenix.'"

"Phoenix has become the kidnapping capital of the United States, because of illegal immigration and human smuggling, according to the head of the Phoenix Law Enforcement Association."
"Phoenix is ground zero for illegal narcotics smuggling and illegal human smuggling in the United States," said Phil Roberts, a Phoenix Police Department detective.
"There's a lot of illegal cash out there in the valley, and a lot of people want to get their hands on it."
Last year alone, Phoenix police reported 357 extortion-related abductions -- up by nearly half from 2005 -- targeting individuals with ties to Mexican smuggling rings.
In addition, federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement police have also recorded cases of kidnappers snatching illegal immigrant day laborers off the street for ransom."
"We're in the eye of the storm," Phoenix Police Chief Andy Anderson told ABC News of the violent crimes and ruthless tactics spurred by Mexico's drug cartels that have expanded business across the border. "If it doesn't stop here, if we're not able to fix it here and get it turned around, it will go across the nation," he said.
California Attorney General Jerry Brown warned that as the U.S. government focuses so intently on Islamic extremist groups, other types of terrorists – those involved with the same kidnappings, extortion and drug cartels that are sweeping Phoenix – are overlooked."
"An ABC News' investigation uncovered horrific cases of chopped-off hands, legs and heads when a victim's family doesn't pay up fast enough."
"The National Drug Threat Assessment 2009, from the National Drug Intelligence Center (NDIC), reports that “Mexican drug trafficking organizations (DTOs) are the greatest drug trafficking threat to the United States."
ALL CREDIBLE SOURCES CITED IN THE STORIES LINKED ABOVE.
"Last month, Mr. Obama signed a $600 million bill to beef up security along the southwestern border. The bill funds 1,000 more Border Patrol agents, as well as 250 CBP officers and two more unmanned aerial vehicles."
too little too late
Yes, and Obama also deported MORE illegals in one year than Bush did in any year. Obama has done more than Bush ever did.
One illegal is one to many, let alone the milliom's WE have to support.
Anthony wrote: "Yet Phoenix remains as the kidnapping and human trafficking capital of America. Big deal."
Well, what would you prefer: Omaha, Boise, Sacramento, Charleston?
Ya see, you can drop the alleged kidnapping rate in Phoenix to zero, and some other city will then become the kidnapping capital of the country.
And what will your whining be when say, Lancaster Pennsylvania, becomes the kidnapping capital, too many Amish?
In 2005, Bush ordered 6,000 troops. They are still there.
As of current day, the Obama administration has "started deploying a force of 1,200 National Guard troops to the southwest border and has approved a $600 million bill to fund 1,500 new Border Patrol, ICE and DEA agents." ~Fox News 09-02-2010
Meanwhile, according to the FBI, violent crimes reported in Arizona is DOWN. According to the report released today, the number of Illegal Immigrants is DOWN. And, the number of deportations is UP.
Yet Phoenix remains as the kidnapping and human trafficking capital of America. Big deal.
Yes, it's terrible. And, the police need to beef up their force. They're working on it.
Anthony, you do realize that the victims are "... are often illegal aliens whose captors then demand ransom from the victims' relatives in Mexico. " [abc news - BRIAN ROSS, RICHARD ESPOSITO and ASA ESLOCKER - February 11, 2009
Those poor people. I feel for them.
Does anyone think that for one minute the D.O.J., B.O.J., and the F.B.I. would show anything in a bad light on their reports ? Their part of the bureaucracy....they can paint any picture that they want in reports. Do you think that for one minute that they would make themselves look incompetent in a report. My previous comment and the information provided shows exactly whats going on ! Barry, Janet, the D.O.J., B.O.J. and the F.B.I. all want to make us believe that everything is getting better. They know that anything in those reports would be hard pressed to be proven wrong....that would make them look bad and who would step up to prove them wrong for fear of having to deal with these bureaucratic agencies breathing down their necks for the rest of their lives ! All is not well in the land of milk and honey !
Since there's been such massive pruning of comments I'm just testing that comments are still being accepted.
sorry, Anthony accidently clicked on the "far right crazy" button.
To say that NOTHING is being done is grossly inaccurate. The $600M was just approved - there is a plan to move on the problem. I cannot know with certainty that the problem will be fixed with these new measures but NO ONE does. Are we, as a people, simply incapable of giving anything an opportunity or the time for action to succeed or fail?
This is the very type of problem that the National Police Force (with both military and police included) would prove to be a valuable asset in fighting this crime with military components that we are seeing in Arizona. Short of declaring war on Mexico, which surely no one is advocating, the national police force seems like the best bet to me to actually stand a chance in fighting this type of criminal activity.
As for the signs - criticizing their presence is just picking nits. Reasonable people would agree that signs are an invaluable method of warning people of danger ahead. Taking the signs down would be tantamount to allowing people to enter an area where a road is washed out or a bridge is incomplete. It is a shame that the signs are needed but they are NEEDED. - lg
The interesting thing about statistics....in this case the kidnappings in Arizona.....we have to rely only on what gets reported and or how fast these statistics are accumulated for public consumption via bogged down bureaucracies, state cutbacks in personnel because of a down turned economy who might otherwise be aiding in accumulating statistics, and the source of those statistics being accurate because of their source....pending weather their fed, state or an outside agency and weather or not that outside agency is serving the fed or the state .....there could be biases pending on who's being served and for what price !
Anthony, we you clean up the comments, leave a couple of non-conservative comments up so you don't look like a partisan hack...taking out all the many countercomments just makes the whole blog lean far far right on the browser and hard to read.
Walrus: You're scaring me!!!!! - my comment is still up - lg
I'm afraid that I don't see the correlation between your argument, Anthony, and the actual data from the FBI, BOJ and DOJ that show that the rates of border crime in Arizona has been trending down for more than a decade, and is lower today than it has been since at least the mid-1970's. If you are reporting that violence on the Mexico-side of the border in increasing (and I have no reason to doubt that this assertion is true), then the declining trend in border violence on our side of the border would seem that the policies of Mr. Bush and Mr. Obama would seem to be working pretty well.
But hey...you don't have to believe lil' old me. Just check the numbers out for yourself...

P.S. And, true to form, Anthony has tried to prevent actual FACTS from being introduced in the discussion by deleting my comment. I think it says a great deal about Anthony's crediblity as an Examiner that he prefers to delete factual rebuttals rather than responding to by either refining the substance of his argument, or simply admitting that he was wrong.
P.P.S. The number of times that Anthony has deleted this comment: 10
In response to Anthony's threat to have all of us "trolls" banned, I responed to him with the following comment, which he immediately deleted...
-----
Good luck with that, Anthony. However, I would suggest that you read the Terms of Use before wasting your time trying to get people banned. And here's a hint: Disagreement with an Examiner does not constitute a violation of the Terms of Use. And, while I can't in good conscience call you a liar, I can say with certainty that your position is premised on false information. You would only be a "liar" if you knew that when you originally wrote the article. However, the fact that you have attempted to suppress discussion of the actual data behind your claims by deleted links leading to credible sources that contradicted your assertions does look pretty bad. I can't think of any reason that an honest person would do that.
-----
Shortly after this, Anthony said, "I told Examiner I was leaving up the rest of the comments today so that all can see for themselves what you and your troll minions are doing." Immediately after he said this, however, he deleted the following comment as well...
-----
Well, I suppose that we will see if the Examiner agrees with your defintion of "badgering," Anthony. I would suggest that deleting comments that have in no way violated the Examiner's Terms of Use is blatantly unethical, and that users who repost their comments are simply combating that unethical behavior. I would also suggest to any employees of the Examiner who read this to take a good look at some of your own comments and articles, which regularly violate the Terms of Use. I would also suggest that deleting comments from users who have not violated the Terms of Use is IN AND OF ITSELF a form of harrassment, that the Examiner should not tolerate.
-----
My guess is that when Anthony realized that he is guilty of the very infractions that he incorrectly accuses others of committing, he panicked and tried to cover his tracks. I would suggest to Anthony that all of the childish name-calling, the threats and deletions are not helping his credibility.

PHILesq lamented the lack of substance on the "other side" of this argument, to which I responded with the following comment...
-----
In point of fact, PHILesq, some of us DID provide substantive rebuttals to Anthony's assertions. For example, I provided links to the DOJ, BOJ and FBI crime reports that show that the border violence in Arizon has in fact been trending DOWNWARDS for several years. Anthony then deleted those comments (which seems to be his "go to" strategy whenever he is presented with facts that contradict his point-of-view).
-----
P.S. Of course, Anthony deleted THIS comment, as well as the ones which I mentioned in my response to PHILesq. Fortunately, I have a lot of experience dealing with unethical Examiners, and saved my comment so that it could be easily re-posted.
Anthony tried to backpedal from the factual inaccuracies which undely his point-of-view by saying that, "The issue is NOT overall crime rates. It is specifically about kidnapping and human trafficking by Mexican drug cartels..."
That's an interesting assertion, Anthony. Have you read your own article? Do you realize that you never even mentioned kidnapping in that article? What you DID say was that, "the federal government" had failed "to secure the southern border," and that, " the federal government" had failed "to do its sworn duty to protect our borders" from "an outright invasion of the U.S. from the south."
In response, I provided you with specific, credible sources that show that during the last two administrations, border violence has been steadily decreasing. If the issue were being ignored as you suggest, and if the policies in place were in fact "failures," then why are the rates of violence decreasing, even as the violence on the Mexico-side of the border continues to increase?
We no one here is lying to you, Anthony. You are get hysterical whenever someone challenges you, and especially so when they are able to bring facts to the table to support their rebuttals.
P.S. Of course, Anthony deleted this comment, as well as his own comment which I quoted above and which promted my response. Apparently, Anthony was embarassed by the fact that he got tripped up in the tangled mess of his inconsistent arguments.
Of course, the best part is anthony quotes Phoenix PD Sgt. Phil Roberts to support his kidnapping argument.
That's the same Phil Roberts currently in a legal battle with the chief and city manager after he accused them of grossly inflating the numbers to get stimulus money.
"The battle started this week, when Phoenix police Sgt. Phil Roberts, a 24-year veteran of the force sent a memo to the Phoenix City Manager accusing the department of inflating the kidnapping numbers to get $1.7 million in stimulus money."
