As a three-time Pro Bowler on special teams, WR Kassim Osgood needed to impress his coaches when he signed with the 49ers last offseason. Today, the 49ers reached an agreement with Osgood to return for a second season with the team, according to Ian Rapoport.
Osgood has been mostly known as a special teams player, from being a gunner to blocking on return units. In the 2013 season, he had one touchdown against the Tennessee Titans in Week 7 where Darryl Morris ripped the ball out and Osgood fell on the loose ball in the end zone.
Last minicamp, Osgood made a strong impression on Jim Harbaugh when he was first with the team. The head coach praised him when bringing up his name for his positive work ethic.
"[There is] something really I think interesting to point out is [WR] Kassim Osgood who got here, I think started practicing [in OTAs]," Harbaugh said in June. "Basically he showed up and we’re telling him the plays, where to line up, what route to run, what his blocking assignment was, every single play. And then over the weekend, he must have just locked himself in his hotel room and studied the playbook all weekend because he came out here on Monday and didn’t have to tell him anything. He got the play in the huddle with the correct alignment, the split, the route, depth, everything was really good like he had been here all offseason. An example of a real professional and a guy who works at his craft. A great example for the rest of our guys.”
