Feb. 3, 2013, Chelsea Hoffman reporting: Is violent rhetoric and political extremism increasing in wake of the new gun regulation push? If you look at the news and the internet then it certainly seems so. In fact, it seems that with each horrific gun incident that hits the media the level of tension displayed by conservative gun owners becomes more and more apparent. The disturbing number of anti-government sentiments displayed on these social networks draw attention to the possibility that gun enthusiasts are suffering from hysteria en mass. In this original Examiner.Com news report, I dug deep through various discussions in several parts of the internet to reveal just how venomous the political dissent is in recent months and just how open people are when they believe they are anonymous and safe from the scrutiny of the public.
It's already been asked if "Facebook is a liberal bully haven," and now it's being asked if the online behavior of conservative second amendment supporters is getting out of control. To answer this question all one has to do is look at Twitter;Look at Facebook -- and when the time comes, look at "The Tea Party Community." While there are level headed supporters of our second amendment rights, the online environment in general provides a sort of reality filter for others. And this reality filter gives certain personalities the false sense of anonymity and invincibility to social expectations and even civil or criminal laws!
In case you're not aware yet, there is supposed to be some so called "Day of Resistance" being hosted nationally by supporters of the second amendment, but if you look at some of the followers of this concept you will find violent concept. In fact, some people have gone as far as to openly stating that they will be "locked and loaded." Others have referred to supporters of gun control and the government as "the enemy." It's always disturbing when guns and militant jargon are combined to push awareness of a particular cause.
On Twitter, the level of dissent is also on a disturbing level. Several accounts are posting messages pertaining to threatening the government if their precious guns are taken from them.
"WARNING: Trying to take my guns WILL result in you gettin shot." said @AngryRedneckGrl
"If any of you liberals want my guns, please come in the middle of the night to take them. Don't knock. Just come on in." said @DBozick.
This is just a sample of the public and open hatred for liberals and gun control being displayed online. It's a blatant display of a lack of regard for others, with actual threats of violence being made against this invisible threat of guns being taken. This menacing behavior being shared online seems threatening of what may come.
