A chilling report detailing the bloody crime scene at the home of Julie Schenecker, the Florida Army wife accused of killing her teen children last week, was released Tuesday, Feb. 1.
According to police documents, Tampa officers found Schenecker, 50, in a screened-in porch near a pool. She was unconscious and her clothes were covered in the dried blood of her children.
Friday, Jan. 28, investigators arrived at the Tampa Palms home after receiving a call from Schenecker’s mother, who altered police that her daughter was depressed and possibly suicidal.
After finding Julie Schenecker, police searched the rest of the 3,000-square-foot property. Inside, they found the body of 16-year-old Calyx Schenecker.
Calyx was discovered in an upstairs bedroom. She was covered with a blanket and appeared to have had suffered gun shot wounds to the face and back of the head.
The report states the girl’s body was moved from an area near a computer desk and placed on a bed.
Powers Beau, “Beau” Schenecker, 13, was found dead in the family’s SUV, which was parked in the garage. He, too, was shot in the head and covered with a bloody blanket.
While police found blood throughout the home, officers also found five spent shell casings and at 15 live rounds--each from a .38-caliber pistol--in the master bedroom.
A handgun and a Smith & Wesson instruction manual were also seized. Investigators said they later found a note, which detailed Schenecker’s plan to kill her children and commit suicide.
Police would not comment on whether Schenecker, a former Army intelligence worker, was unconscious becuase of a suicide attempt.
After her clothes were seized as evidence, Schenecker was taken to Tampa General Hospital for what has been reported as a pre-existing medical condition.
Shenecker told officers she killed her children because they “talked back,” and were “mouthy.” She said she shot Beau after she picked in up from soccer practice. She then killed Calyx while the teen studied at her computer desk.
It was later learned that Schenecker bought a .38-caliber handgun five days before the shootings.
A family services report also emerged.
The report details allegations made by Calyx Schenecker that her mother had slapped her in the face on at least two occasion around Nov. 6, 2010.
The case was closed in late December, after officials failed to find evidence of physical abuse. However, the report indicates that Julie Schenecker had been taking Calyx to a family therapy center prior to the allegations of abuse.
Schenecker also told investigators in that case she was forced to tighten-up disciplinary measures with her daughter because the teen was no longer responding to having privileges taken away. Both reports of physical abuse were sparked by reported verbal confrontations.
Meantime, little word has come from Schenecker’s husband, Army Col. Parker Schenecker, who was in the Middle East at the time of the shootings. Insiders say the intelligence officer was alerted of the crimes Friday, a day after his children were allegedly gunned-down by their mother.
Julie Schenecker appeared in Hillsborough County Court for the first time Monday, Jan. 31. She has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and is being held without bail at the Falkenburg Road Jail.
