The new iPad mini with Retina display will hit store shelves on Nov 21, according to an Oct 30 report in MacRumors. Up until now Apple hasn't announced a launched date for the new iPad mini. The larger cousin of iPad mini, the iPad Air, goes on sale tomorrow.
While Apple has only given a November time frame for the launch of the new iPad mini with Retina display, a listing for this iPad mini appears on Target's website indicating the Thursday before Thanksgiving as the release date.
Although Apple normally releases new products on a Friday, Apple might want to give the new iPad mini one full week of sales before Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving and the traditional start of the Christmas shopping season. The CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, has referred to this Christmas as an “iPad Christmas” (indicating his belief that sales of both iPad mini with Retina display and iPad Air will be phenomenal) .
It is suggested by some that Apple hasn't yet officially announced a release date for iPad mini because assembly of the new iPad mini is hampered by Sharp's production of the Retina display panels. Its equally likely that Apple simply hasn't announced a launch date for the new iPad mini because it wants to focus on the launch of the iPad Air.
But whether customers will see tight supplies of the new iPad mini or not, supplies of the new iPad Air are plentiful. Sales of the iPad Air begin Friday, Nov 1, at 12:01 PST, that 3:01 a.m. EST.
