Malek Harris’ senior season atop the hardwood appears to be over before having even begun.
According to Joe Hendrickson of the Chicago Sun-Times on Saturday, the 6’7”, 200-pound Harris, a versatile wing from Carl Sandberg High School (Oakland Park, Ill.) who verbally committed to Buzz Williams and the Marquette Golden Eagles on June 26, has been suspended for the entire 2013-14 basketball campaign due to disciplinary reasons.
Harris, who average 17.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists per outing as a junior, was also suspended for the first 11 games a season ago for undisclosed violations, as reported by Hendrickson.
Due to NCAA rules, Marquette is not allowed to comment on the situation until Harris formally signs a national letter of intent (the fall signing period commences on Nov. 13).
Prior to committing to the Golden Eagles over the summer, the versatile Harris, ranked as the 33rd overall power forward in the Class of 2014 by ESPN.com, had received offers from DePaul, Iowa, Kansas State, Oregon State and Purdue, among others.
