What gave Sacramento Kings fans a scare earlier late last night is proving that maybe it wasn't a false alarm after all.
Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reports on Twitter that the Maloof family are finalizing a deal to sell the Kings to Chris Hansen's Seattle group. Wojnarowski says the sell is very close:
No agreement signed, but one source describes deal as "1st and goal at 1." Maloofs history of changing course late still makes many uneasy.
"Daina Falk, the daughter of NBA agent David Falk, first tweeted about the potential sell, but deleted it afterwards.
This comes one day after Virginia Beach dropped their effort for building a $300 million arena, likely the Kings. They also turned down an arena deal with the City of Sacramento after agreeing to the deal.
Wojnarowski also states that if the Kings are sold, they'll play at KeyArena in Seattle next year and the year after before moving to a brand new arena in the city and that the Maloofs will own an "extremely small percentage" of the team.
Seattle lost its team when Clay Bennett bought the SuperSonics and moved the team to Oklahoma City.
Now the Kings are facing the same fate and it looks like Sacramento will be, unlike Seattle, without a major professional sports team.
UPDATE: According to CBS 13's Steve Hansen, the Maloofs have rejected the Seattle group's offer.
