Report: Lamoriello talks with Brodeur about the goaltenders future in New Jersey

Martin Brodeur hasn't started for the New Jersey Devils since Jan. 26 against the New York Rangers, where he gave up six goals to the Blueshirts at Yankee Stadium before being replaced by Cory Schneider in the game's final frame.

With Schneider in net every game since then, Brodeur's role with the Devils has become cloudy and three weeks after his last appearance the question has gone from when will the life-long Devil and future Hall of Famer return to the crease to will he at all?

Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reported on Sunday that the 20-year veteran met with Devils' general manager Lou Lamoriello last week to discuss what Brodeur's future will look like with the organization. No other details have been given at this time but Brodeur hasn't been shy about discussing the possibility that he may be asked to waive his no-trade clause by the Devils.

Brodeur has appeared in 28 games with the Devils this season (13-11-4), putting up some of his worst numbers ever with a .899 save percentage and a goals against average of 2.52. The last time the 41-year-old ended a season with a worse GAA was during the 2005-2006 season when he went 43-23-7, giving up an average of 2.57 goals coming out of the lockout season.

Whether or not we have seen the last of Brodeur in a Devils uniform is yet to be seen. The NHL is under an Olympic roster freeze and teams will not be able to make moves until it's lifted at 11:59 pm on Feb. 23 following the gold medal game.

Until then, Brodeur will remain a New Jersey Devil. Even if his one of his kids is no longer rooting for them.

UPDATE: The tweet one of Brodeur's teenage sons put out on Feb.8 saying, "New favorite team #gooilers #oilcountry #betterthanthedevils" was deleted on Monday morning.
