Report: Former Beatles Apple Corps offices to become clothing store

Richard Porter, who leads the London Beatles walking tours, reported Thursday that the building at 3 Savile Row that formerly housed the Apple offices during the Beatles heyday is about to be inhabited again after being empty for years.

The building will become Abercrombie Kids, a younger demographic clothing store spinoff of the Abercrombie & Fitch clothing chain. He says it'll be their first store in the UK.

Asked to comment, a spokesman for Abercrombie & Fitch would only say, "While it's possible that we may open a store at 3 Savile Row, we can't provide specific opening dates."

Apple Corps was originally founded by the Beatles in 1968 to help invest their wealth so it wouldn't be swallowed by the taxman. It became the umbrella company for a range of Beatle initiatives, most notably a record company and a clothing store. About the name, Paul McCartney said, "It's a pun -- apple core. See?"
