Report: Don Cornelius commits suicide

Don Cornelius, the host of the iconic music TV show 'Soul Train,' has committed suicide at the age of 75.

According to multiple reports, Cornelius was found dead in his Sherman Oaks home early Wednesday morning. Police told TMZ that the cause of death appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Cornelius began hosting 'Soul Train' in October 1971. The show went on to become "the longest running, first run, nationally syndicated program in TV history. Cornelius stayed on as the show's host through 1993. 'Soul Train' aired for 35 years before going off the air in 2006.

The motivation behind Cornelius' suicide is still unknown. He has been out of the public eye for several years. His most recent public appearances were at the 2009 BET Awards to present The OJays with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
