Michael Thomas has been signed to the 53-man roster off the 49ers practice squad by the Miami Dolphins, according to Niners Nation. He will receive the 53-man roster minimum for the final three weeks of the season whether he is waived later or not.

He was an undrafted free agent in 2012 who was on the 49ers practice squad for the last one and a half seasons. After competing in training camp to be a reserve defensive back, he remained on the practice squad. Thomas was a former Stanford Cardinal who played under Jim Harbuagh and Vic Fangio during his junior season in 2010.

This signing marks the second player poached off the 49ers practice squad this year. Earlier in the season, OL Patrick Omameh was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on October 11.

In the 2012 season, the 49ers lost then-practice squad memebers WR Nate Palmer and DL Matt Masifilo to the Indianapolis Colts and Buccaneers, respectively.
