Citing a report at Christian Today and several other websites, Inquisitr said Sunday that Islamic militants with Boko Haram beheaded a six-year-old boy simply for being Christian. Reports say the boy was murdered in early June, but news of the killing did not go global until this week.
Voice of the Martyrs said the attack took place in Attagara, Gwoza district, Borno State, a predominantly Christian community. Over 100 militants attacked the village, killing men, women and children.
According to VOM, the attack took place as Sunday church services were beginning. One villager, Sawaltha Wandala, arrived at church to attend the second service when he reportedly saw children being killed by the terrorists.
He saw a six-year-old boy who was slashed and thrown into a ditch. Wandala picked the boy up and started carrying him to a nearby hospital in Cameroon when he was stopped by five militants.
The insurgents grabbed the boy from his arms and beheaded him. They began beating Sawaltha with tree branches and struck him in the head with a rock, leaving him for dead.
VOM said the attackers then returned to the area two days later. An estimated 200 people, including children, were killed in the attacks.
One man, identified as John Yakubu, managed to get his family safely into Cameroon and returned to retrieve some goats he hoped to sell to feed his starving family. The militants spotted John as he went to collect the family Bible.
“We know you’re John,” the militants reportedly said. “You must convert to Islam or else you will die a painful death.”
John refused and the men tied him to a tree. They hacked both of his hands and mocked him: “Can you become a Muslim now?”
“You can kill my body, but not my soul,” John said. This infuriated the militants who continued to torture him.
"We will show you," they said. According to reports, the terrorists cut into his feet and his back. Using an axe, they cut into his knee, hitting the bone and slashed his head with a knife. He eventually lost consciousness and was left bleeding. After three days, he was rescued and taken to a hospital in a coma.
John later gave a message of peace to his attackers when he was well enough to be interviewed. According to VOM, he said, "I have forgiven the Islamic militants, because they did not know what they are doing."
It's not the first report of children being brutally murdered by Islamic militants. As we have reported, Christian children in Mosul have been beheaded by ISIS terrorists, and the Anglican vicar of Baghdad said terrorists cut a five-year-old boy in two. Last September, a report emerged from Syria saying Islamic terrorists beheaded a 40-day-old infant, and a nun said militants dismembered a little girl with a frame saw while she was still alive.
According to some reports, Boko Haram terrorists have killed an estimated 3,000 people this year alone. The group gained global notoriety when it kidnapped 270 children from a girls school in April. According to Christian Today, over 200 still remain missing.
