Report: 'Battlefield 4' runs with 64 players on PS4 and Xbox 720, set in China

Electronic Arts and DICE are set to unveil Battlefield 4 at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco on March 27. However, details of the PS4, Xbox 720, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC shooter leaked from an upcoming issue of Edge magazine on Tuesday.

According to the leak that originated at chiphell.com and was translated by wccftech.com, the Playstation 4 and Xbox 720 versions of Battlefield 4 will support 64 players in multiplayer. While this is expected of the PC version of the game, current-gen consoles could only support 24 players for Battlefield 3 which created some disappointment.

The support of 64 players in multiplayers is a good selling point for next-gen consoles since the report states that the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will still only support 24 players.

Details on the single-player campaign are lacking right now but the game will be set in a near-future China of 2020 with Shanghai being one of the big urban areas. Multiplayer maps confirmed so far include Diaoyu Island, Tiananmen, Shanghai Bund, Xizhimen and Xizhimen Rush.

Battlefield 4 will field equipment from the Chinese army such as the J20 fighter jet and M1A2 TUSK tank. The air combat zone will be increased over Battlefield 3 to give more room to those that prefer to fight in the sky.

The Commander System is expected to return with the commander capable of providing artillery fire, recharges and UAV detection. The skill system that was part of Battlefield 3 is also getting an upgrade for the latest version of the game though exactly how is unknown.
