Aldon Smith will be taking an indefinite leave from the 49ers after the 27-7 loss to the Colts on Sunday afternoon. His locker was completely empty after the game and he released the following statement:
"I want to apologize to the team, organization, my family and everyone I let down. It’s something I will get fixed. I’ll do everything in my power to make sure this never happens again."
Last Friday was his second DUI arrest after previously being arrested in January 2012. He is also handling the legal case of the house party incident from June 2012.
Team CEO Jed York said Smith will not be playing in Thursday's game against the St. Louis Rams. He said the All-Pro linebacker's absence is a 'personal matter,' and he defended the coaches' decision to play him in today's game against the Colts.
York released the following statement in the locker room after the game:
"[Aldon Smith's DUI] was disappointing to the team. This is not a one day fix. We support Aldon if he's willing to fix himself we'll do this right. We want to make sure that Aldon Smith is not going to be in this situation again. This is a personal matter. I will support him as long as he's willing to do this and be better."
