Less than 24 hours after the third preseason game ended against the Minnesota Vikings, the 49ers already got a head start in making their roster cuts. The 49ers announced they have cut five players including Scott Tolzien.
Tolzien spent the 2011 and 2012 seasons as the team's third quarterback, but never played in a game. He didn't play in yesterday's preseason game while Seneca Wallace was only seen on the final possession. There are now four quarterbacks on the roster with Colt McCoy as the backup while Wallace and B.J. Daniels are fighting for the third string spot.
In addition to Tolzien, the 49ers also waived OL Al Netter, RB D.J. Harper, P Colton Schmidt and ILB Joe Holland.
The 49ers must have the roster trimmed to 75 players by the deadline on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. PT.
