The 49ers announced on Tuesday afternoon that they have waived QB B.J. Daniels and FB Owen Marecic. They have signed LB Jermaine Cunningham with one roster spot currently left open. It has been reported that the 49ers plan to sign QB John Skelton, who worked out with the 49ers last month, according to Matt Barrows.
Cunningham was a former second-round draft pick of the New England Patriots in 2010. He appeared 36 games recording 67 tackles, 3.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries total. The 6-3, 255 pound linebacker started in 14 of those games for the Patriots and was released on August 31, 2013.
Daniels was a seventh-round draft pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. After having a promising preseason, the 49ers kept him on the 53-man roster as he was inactive for all four games of the season.
Marecic joined the team after Ian Williams was placed on the injured reserve in Week 3. He played in only one game against the Indianapolis Colts on special teams and was inactive in Thursday's game against the Rams.
Meanwhile, Skelton worked out with the 49ers last month. Jim Harbaugh would not comment on the former starting Arizona Cardinals quarterback when asked about his workout.
