The 49ers reached an agreement with CB Eric Wright on Monday afternoon. Wright tweeted and posted on his Instagram that he is returning with a photo of the contract he will sign. He had the following statement on both platforms:
"...The dream of Eric Wright that's what I'm giving you..." The Game #LetsTryThisAgain #BeGratefulForYourOpportunities #QuestForSix #ImJustAKidFromHuntersPoint #PeaceAndBlessings"
The 49ers initially traded for Eric Wright in exchange for a draft pick last July with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, the trade was cancelled after he failed his physical. He later signed with the team in August on a one-year contract.
Wright spent majority of the season on the non-football injury list before making his 49ers debut in Week 11 against the New Orleans Saints as a nickel CB when Tarell Brown injured his ribs. In seven regular season games, he had seven tackles and one interception. His only turnover came against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 14 after Russell Wilson heaved a desperate attempt to the end zone.
He appeared in all 49ers postseason games, but had a limited role in the dime defense. Trent Baalke has made an effort to keep him on the 49ers, but the coaching staff has seldom played him. Wright should be battling Chris Culliver in training camp.
