In the 2012 offseason, the 49ers signed Manningham to a two-year contract after he had a spectacular catch in Super Bowl XLVI against the New England Patriots when he played for the New York Giants. In 18 games through the past two seasons he recorded 51 receptions for 534 yards and one touchdown.
Manningham began the season on the physically unable to perform list after suffering two torn ligaments against the Seattle Seahawks from a collision in Week 16 of 2012. He was later activated to the 53-man roster in Week 9 where he made his 2013 season debut in Week 10 against the Carolina Panthers. Manningham finished the 2013 season with nine receptions for 85 yards.
With Manningham's season being over, Quinton Patton will be the expected No. 3 wide receiver as he is the next player on the depth chart. Other players who are behind Patton include special teams star Kassim Osgood and practice squad member Chuck Jacobs.
Patton was a fourth round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. After having a promising preseason in two games, he fractured his foot in Week 4 against the Rams. Monday night was Patton's first game since the injury.
