Restore Equality 2010, the campaign working to repeal California Proposition 8 via the ballot box this year, announced today that it is now collecting digital signatures for its November 2010 ballot effort. Using an application developed by Verafirma, a Silicon Valley technology company, California voters will now be able to sign the petition via an iPhone or iPod Touch, joining the hundreds of thousands of Californians who have already signed paper ballots. Registered California voters can access the digital signature tool and instructional video at http://restoreequality2010.com/ipod.htm.
"California is known for being a state that leads change," said Sean Bohac, Chair of the Restore Equality 2010 Statewide Advisory Panel. "Our team looks forward to using this revolutionary technology to augment our grassroots efforts and change the way campaigns are run."
With Verafirma's e-sign tool, Restore Equality 2010 joins the efforts of the California Marijuana Legalization Initiative in the use of digital signature gathering tools this year. With an iPhone or iPod Touch, voters can access the Verafirma tool and use their finger to sign the official petition to repeal Proposition 8. An electronic copy is sent to the signer and Restore Equality 2010, who will then file it alongside the handwritten petitions.
"In California we sign contracts, bank transactions, and credit card purchases electronically. We are excited to use this same tool in the referendum process" said Bohac. "Verafirma takes direct democracy out of the hands of millionaires, who qualify initiatives by paying professional signature gatherers, and literally puts it in the hands of California voters."
California voters without access to an iPhone or iPod Touch can still print out their own petition, sign it, and mail it in by accessing www.signforequality.com.
Passed by a slim majority in 2008, California's Proposition 8 eliminated the state constitution-guaranteed right for same-sex couples to marry. Restore Equality 2010, aided by its cross-party allies, has until April 12 to collect just under 700,000 signatures to qualify the repeal for the November ballot.

Why are there a banner ad for Traditional Values Coalition on the same page as this story? Is someone selling ads on this site in cahoots with the Yes on 8ers? "Do You Want Men Dressed As Women Teaching Your Kids?" Firstly children are not goats and this is an insult either way you cut it.
The banner ads are random, and I am sure the folks at the examniner need to make some $$ to offset the cost of their operation. Besides,do we want to be labeled a "fox news" and show only one side of the story? (even if the other side si wrong wrong wrong but i digress... lol) Not getting the goat reference though. Hoping that is an article somewhere lese and i just missed it?
