Rep. Vance McAllister video: Kissing staffer after campaigning on family values

Rep. Vance McAllister is yet another politician asking for the public’s forgiveness today for not walking the talk. A married McAllister, who prides himself on Christian and family values, was caught on tape kissing a female staff person, according to CBS News on April 7.

McAllister wasn’t giving this woman a peck on the cheek to say hello or good-bye, he was in a hot and heavy lip lock with a woman on his staff. This Republican freshman from Louisiana centered his campaign on his faith and family, but this video seems to show that isn’t always were his allegiance lies.

The unnamed woman is identified only as a 33-year-old part-time scheduler for McAllister and she too is married. This 20-second embrace seen on video took place right at his Monroe district office.

Today McAllister joins the vast list of politicians in office looking for his constituents to forgive his short comings. McAllister released a statement that included:

"There's no doubt I've fallen short and I'm asking for forgiveness. I'm asking for forgiveness from God, my wife, my kids, my staff, and my constituents who elected me to serve. Trust is something I know has to be earned whether you're a husband, a father, or a congressman. I promise to do everything I can to earn back the trust of everyone I've disappointed."

He continued with:

"From day one, I've always tried to be an honest man. I ran for Congress to make a difference and not to just be another politician. I don't want to make a political statement on this, I would just simply like to say that I'm very sorry for what I've done.”

Finally, his final request was for his family:

"While I realize I serve the public, I would appreciate the privacy given to my children as we get through this."

McAllister has already raised a few eyebrows since stepping into office. On a trip home he told his district’s Chamber of Commerce that his new job on Capitol Hill “sucks.” During the controversy of “Duck Dynasty’s” Phil Robertson’s gay marriage statements, McAllister invited Phil’s son Willie Robertson to be his guest at the State of the Union event. This raised a few more eyebrows of his political peers.

What the future holds for McAllister is unknown, he first will need to make repairs at home, where his wife Kelly and five children need to navigate the bombshell in the headlines about their father and husband. As far as his career goes, he based his campaign around family values and faith, so he has a long road ahead of him with damage control.

For some, the kiss and embrace wasn't as of much as a surprise as his choice of locations to woo this woman. It was in his own district political office. Do these politicians really think they are infallible? It is almost like they think while it is happening to my fellow politicians, this just can't happen to me.

Even the average citizen on the street knows they are caught on a security camera many times throughout the day, the cameras are everywhere. This video was taken at his own office, so he had to be aware that the camera was there. He couldn't have lined this picture up any better if he was the director of his own incriminating movie! Apparently this speaks to the power of lust, it can be blinding.
