According to Massachusetts Congressman Ed Markey, Republicans are out to shut down the Internet and destroy the entire planet.
A video posted at The Blaze shows the liberal Democrat making his outrageous charges on Saturday - one day after Congressional leaders avoided a shutdown of the federal government.
"Republicans are trying to pass legislation destroying the World Wide Web," Markey whined, adding "and they're also trying to pass legislation to help destroy the whole wide world."
According to Markey, the GOP is taking aim at Google Earth, and seeks to pollute the entire planet.
"They are trying to mess with the blogosphere and pollute the atmosphere at the same time," Markey said.
In Markey's worldview, the vote to prevent a takeover of the Internet by the FCC will somehow "clog" and destroy the internet.
But silly comments and demagoguery are nothing new for Markey.
During the debate over funding for NPR and PBS, Markey held a press conference using Arthur the Aardvark - the popular PBS children's character - in an effort to demagogue the budget issue:
As Congresswoman Betty McCollum clung to an Elmo doll, Representative Ed Markey (D-MA) beckoned Arthur the Aardvark to join him in a press conference calling on Republicans to continue funding the taxpayer-subsidized NPR.
"Come over here Arthur,” he said.
“We need your help today,” he told a person dressed as the PBS character. “We can’t leave Arthur and all of his pals in the lurch.”
From the very beginning of the budget debate, Democrats have done nothing but demonize Republicans, offering no solutions or alternatives, and hoping that by throwing out the most outrageous, extreme remarks possible, they can shore up their radical left wing base.
Noam Chomsky recently said that the election of Republicans was "a kind of a death knell for the species."
“There’s other factors like the anger, and the fear and hostility in the country about everything carries over to this,” Chomsky said. “So if you look at polls, everyone hates Congress. They hate the Democrats. They hate the Republicans even more. They hate big business. They hate banks and they distrust scientists. So why should we believe what these pointy-head elitist are telling? We don’t trust anything else. We don’t trust them.”
Kathleen Parker addresses this in a recent editorial at the Washington Post:
So why do Republicans hate art, the elderly and children?
Hint: Same reason parents hate their children when they say, “No.” We could just leave it at that, but this is too much fun.
The demonizing of Republicans for trying to seriously address our desperately ailing economy surely begs for a new metaphor. The GOP has become the army of Mordor, fat-gobbed predators who feed on children while destroying all that is beautiful in their relentless pursuit of greed.
Or so one would infer from the fiery rants emanating from the bowels of Capitol Hill and Hollywood.
Democrats tried this tactic during the 1990's when Republicans first became the majority in Bill Clinton's first term. According to Democrats, seniors would be left to eat dog food, and of course, the planet would be destroyed.
The rhetoric didn't work then - the planet survived, and Republicans got re-elected to Congress in 1996.
While calling Republicans "extremists," Democrats are proving they are the ones who are extreme radicals with no ideas and no desire to make the difficult decisions that must be made to keep the nation solvent and functioning.
