On Thursday, Rep. Allen West (R-FL) said that Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels would be very proud of the Democratic Party for what he called its "incredible propaganda machine."
“If Joseph Goebbels was around, he’d be very proud of the Democrat Party, because they have an incredible propaganda machine,” he said, according to The Hill.
The Hill adds:
Joseph Goebbels was the head of the Minister of Propaganda in Germany while it was under the control of the Nazi party from 1933 to 1945. The department sought to control public opinion and enforce Nazi Party ideology in Germany prior to and during World War II.
West said the comparison was not between Democrats and Nazis and only applied to the quality of the propaganda.
“You have the president, who has an incredible megaphone and a platform, and he has people all across this country believing that the only people on Capitol Hill are House Republicans. He’s not talking anything about his controlled Senate. So, it’s a great propaganda machine. And I have to give him kudos for being able to leverage that,” West added.
Naturally, The Hill missed the point of West's comment, citing a statement from the National Jewish Democratic Council:
The National Jewish Democratic Council released a statement later in the day condemning West for “invoking the Holocaust to make a political point.” NJDC President and CEO David A. Harris called on West to apologize to the Jewish community and “the Americans who fought valiantly to defeat the Nazis."
Radio talk show host Sean Hannity has repeatedly said that journalism in the so-called mainstream media is "dead" since it mostly refuses to cover any negative aspect of any Democrat, especially the current President.
Websites like Newsbusters chronicle on a daily basis, the overt bias in the media.
Here, the incestuous relationship between the Democratic Party and much of the so-called "mainstream media" is referred to as the "Democrat-media complex."
Consider, for example, a Newsweek magazine cover that depicted President Obama as "god of all things." Please. The bias does not get much more blatant than that.
A poll released by The Hill in July showed that 68 percent view the media as biased and unethical.
Forty-six percent of those surveyed believe the media favors Democrats, while only 22 percent believe it favors Republicans.
For those who dismiss the notion the media has a liberal bias, consider that MSNBC's Chris Matthews recently admitted the media leans to the left.
So, yes, there really is a Democrat-media complex, and as propaganda machines go, it's a pretty good one. After all, it got America to elect a man with no executive experience to the highest office in the land based on nothing more than a pithy slogan. And look at where we are today.
Allen West is right. Joseph Goebbels would be proud of the Democrat's propaganda machine.
