If you'd like to show up to your next holiday party in an expensive designer dress without all the expense of  actually buying one, Rent the Runway is the answer for you.

Renttherunway.com launched it's new business this past November, and the concept is exciting. Instead of renting evening wear from a formal shop, you can select your perfect dress from the comfort of your home in a simple three-step process  advertised as "Love, Wear, Return".

Sign up for  a free membership on RTR's website, and you will have access to a catalogue of over 180 designer dresses offered in sizes 0-10.  You even have the option of ordering the dress in two sizes to be sure you get one that fits. Next day shipping is available to the Boston area, you wear your dress to your function and look fabulous, drop your rental back into a pre-paid envelope the next morning, it goes back to RTR and they take care of the dry-cleaning for you.

Rental dresses cost anywhere from $50 to $200 for a four day period. If there are any problems, you may return a dress within 24 hours of receiving it to get a full credit for another rental in time for your special evening.

When you go to the website, you will be asked to join a waitlist, but Lara Crystal, RTR's Director of Marketing, has provided Examiner.com readers this link to skip the wait - www.RentTheRunway.com/bostonexaminer. Although membership is free, you will be asked to provide RTR with the names and e-mail addresses of five friends who will be sent invitations to the site. Ms. Crystal would also like Examiner.com readers to know that gift cards are available and that RTR plans to expand it offerings into size 12 and above in the near future.

Rent the Runway has also announced that it is offering a Search by Date feature so you will be able to view the dresses that are available to you for the day of your function.
