Most Saratoga Springs restaurants and taverns work their way up to Travers Week. In the case of Peabody's Sports Bar & Grill, it was more than just a case of whipping up specials and getting out the word.
Peabody's, which was the city's first sports bar back in 1985, was appearing to have run its course and was put up for sale.
Four new owners -- Joe McClements, Eric Jackson, Mike Meyer and Peter Hart -- purchased it last month. Since then have replaced the sagging floor and the dilapidated furniture and freshened everything else. That includes the patio, where a mural of a jockey and horse, completed in 1996 then covered up, has been restored to the public eye in time for this weekend's opening. They also have increased the number of tap lines.
The quartet worked alongside crews from Bonacio Construction to renovate the facility, enabling them to announce on Sunday that their grand opening would be at 3 p.m. this coming Sunday, although they are operating in soft opening mode right now.
Peabody's, located at 39 Phila Street, is serving lunch, dinner and drinks. Phone: (518) 886-8673.
