Pt. Loma residents can no longer take advantage of the hours fixed for community use at the athletic field at Dana Pt. Middle School. The field was taken out of an agreement between the City and the San Diego Unified School District for joint use of the filed by city councilmembers this week.

THe joint use area at the middle school will still have fixed hurs for community use of the children's play area and the basketball courts.

San Diego Unified School District and the City agreed to jointly use the field in 1994 to add to the park acreage in the copmmunity the locals use for recreation. A field renovation funded by a large donor, repairs to the worn out outfield turf and a synthetic area inside the baseline, makes the field too expensive for the city to maintain as it agreed in the joint use agreement.

The school district has Prop Z funds to use to keep up the renovated field. VOters approved the field renovations in the proposition they passed in November in 2012.

Athletic teams at Pt. Loma schools will use the field for games. The field is on the regular schedule at Pt. Loma High.
