It’s that time of year. Days are growing shorter, football is on TV, the leaves are beginning to turn and evening temperatures are cooling. That means it’s time for Fall Orvis Days and events are set at Reno Orvis. This year, the store located at the Sierra Summit Mall, is hosting a day filled with fun, games and a free BBQ on Oct. 18.
Kicking off the events at Reno Orvis will be a free Fly Fishing 101 Class. The free class is ideal to help someone learn a new, healthy outdoor activity or it’s a great way to learn technical applications if you’ve already started fly fishing but just need a little fine tuning. The class is limited 15, so sign up early.
The day will also feature a free BBQ for patrons to say thank you for your support and simply treat our new and old friends alike. BJ’s Restaurant & Brewery will be supplying beer samples as well to top off the BBQ. Boy Scout Troop 609 will be helping to prepare the BBQ as well. The BBQ/beer will run from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
The event will also feature a casting competition with prizes for a Men’s, Women’s and Youth Divisions. Each contestant will get three tries to hit a target. Hit your target all three times and you’ll get three chances for the division drawing. In addition to the casting/demo fun, there will also be three fly fishing seminars including one by Mike Curtis on the Carson East and West forks, Jan Nemec will talk about Reno-Tahoe area backcountry lakes and another by Gary Bonanno on Pyramid Lake.
