Rene Marie: A.K.A., "U'Dean" speaks volumes in 'Slut Energy Theory'

Composer, singer, actor, Rene Marie as "U' Dean" in "Slut Energy Theory"

You can’t help but have a strange feeling of familiarity the moment “U’Dean” waddles onto the stage in all her deep-southern candor, cane in hand, and itching to tell us a story.

A story that will guarantee the audience some discomfort, uncontrollable laughter, and even a few tears at any given moment.  One thing is for sure, when all is said and done, no one will be able to forget the name, “U’Dean.”

I give you fair warning, this show is not for the faint of heart.  It is not a “light” piece of entertainment, so if you’re expecting a “spiritual sing-along”, you might just want to catch The Color Purple the next time it comes to town.  That is not to say that there is no song and dance, there is, but it is of a kind that delves into the depths of one’s soul, and leaves an indelible print on the heart.

Overall, I say, come one, come all, (but do spare those under the age of 13) and witness a process of healing.  This is not just another story about abuse.  It encompasses so much more than that, it is about letting go of the holds that society bars, and speaking one’s personal truths.  U’ Dean’s story is one that we all can relate to in one way or another, our truths are felt together.  We see ourselves more clearly than ever in the characters portrayed by a single person.

Composer, singer, actor, Rene Marie, is spellbinding in this absolutely thrilling, One-Woman Show.   Directed and co-produced by donnie l. betts, it makes for an exceptional production. Come watch her morph into ourselves.
