In scripture, the word remnant is used for those who believe in God even after others have fallen by the wayside in doubt and unbelief. Being part of the remnant meant you made a choice based on spiritual principles.
Every day I feel the remnant, of which I am a part, is getting smaller and smaller. The deeper I go in Christ, the more distance grows between myself and society in general.
We live in a time of flash mobs, international gangs, and partisanship. Finding gatherings of uncompromised believers in God and God’s word is getting more challenging.
I realized this sounds like I think too highly of myself. Actually, this awareness comes from a place of awe in the power, love, grace and mercy of God.
Recently, in a Sunday morning sermon, I spoke of Christ who died for the ungodly. In the original language of the scripture, ungodly meant lacking a reverence for the person of God. Scripture, which is inspired by God, does not say in this passage that Jesus died for the ungodly. Jesus tasted death for every person. Scriptures say Christ died for the ungodly.
Christ is the messiah, the resurrected one seated at the right hand of God. Christ is the one with whom we can be seated in heavenly places.
The Bible talks about a falling away in the end times. I believed that scripture before and now I see it played out. Daniel is a great example of remnant living. When it brought a death threat to pray out loud and to worship God, Daniel threw open the windows and prayed as he had always prayed. There was a price to be paid for his steadfastness. However, Daniel had a holy reverence for God and would not be dissuaded.
Our resolve to believe and obey God will be sorely tested as we draw closer to God. Those few, those remnant who will not be moved from the basic principles of the Kingdom of God, who are not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, who are not deceived by New Age philosophy, or ridicule by society or governments, will shine brightly.
It is definitely more fun to celebrate with a loud crowd than with a handful of true zealots, but if you decide to be part of the remnant believers in God and God’s word in your Christian walk, you will find joy in your resolve.
