Remembering Those Who Died in Country Music in 2011

Many country music legendaries passed away in 2011.  Here is in tribute to those country music celebrities who left a mark in our lives:

  • Charlie Louvin, 83, singer/songwriter who teamed with brother Ira as The Louvin Brothers (pancreatic cancer)
  • Ferlin Husky, 85, singer/songwriter of the 1950s and 1960s who had hits with "Gone" and "Wings of a Dove." (congestive heart failure)
  • Mel McDaniel, 68, singer in the 1970s and 1980s who had a number one hit in 1984 with "Baby's Got Her Blue Jeans On." (cancer)
  • Marshall Grant, 83, bassist of Johnny Cash's original backing duo, The Tennessee Two.
  • Wilma Lee Cooper, 90, Grand Ole Opry member. (natural causes)
  • Johnnie Wright, 97, singer/songwriter and husband of Kitty Wells. (natural causes)
  • Joel "Taz" DiGregorio, 67, keyboardist for The Charlie Daniels Band. (car accident)
  • Liz Anderson, 81, singer/songwriter wrote Merle Haggard's The Fugitive and is the mother of Lynn. (heart and lung disease)
  • Patsi Bale Cox, 66, author of many hit biographies of Georgette Jones, as well as Kentucky natives Wynonna, Loretta Lynn, and more (emphesyma)
  • Dan "Bee" Spears, 62, bass player for Willie Nelson (slipped on porch and died due to cold weather outside)
