Massachusetts Institute of Technology campus police officer Sean Collier, 26, graduated with honors from Salem State University in 2009, as a criminal justice major. One year ago, he was shot to death on campus by one or both of the Boston Marathon bombing terrorists.

Collier reportedly loved hiking and skiing and was well-liked by his fellow officers as well as the students he was sworn to protect.

He had been on the job at MIT just one year, having previously worked as a civilian employee in another police department He was nearing his goal of getting on the police force in Somerville, Mass., not far from campus.

In addition to the hundreds in his campus family, Officer Collier left behind his parents, a sister Jennifer, and at least one brother who is a machinist for NASCAR's Hendrick Motorsports.
