There was a time when people went to the park for enjoyment, such as listening to music or playing with friends, having a picnic or just hanging out with neighbors from down the street.
Sacramento has "Pops in the Park" scheduled this weekend June 28 at McKinley Park. This event started as an afternoon concert in 1991, but in 1995 it was transformed into a Pops in the Park series of evening concerts.
This is an opportunity to raise money for under funded neighborhood parks while bringing free quality music to those who still enjoy an evening outside their walls.
Enhancing neighborhood parks is the message while helping neighborhoods with athletic scholarships. Mc Kinley park is one who has suffered some damage recently. It is home to a number of special places such as a library, swimming pool and tennis court.
Enjoy a live performance of Garrat Wilkin and the Parrotheads, A tribute to Jimmy Buffet at 601 Alhambra Blvd. this Saturday from 6 P.M. - 10 P.M.

There is also scheduled Screen in the Park for august and for those interested in fireworks, Raley field is scheduled for the Fourth of July in West Sacramento.

Enjoy the charm of East Sacramento which still has joggers in the day and children in strollers cruising by the modest homes of a bygone era.
