(Updated) Conn. State Medical Examiner H. Wayne Carver II announced yesterday that the remains of Newtown shooter Adam Lanza have been claimed.
Carver said that Lanza’s body left the morgue and was actually claimed several days according to The Hartford Courant.
Although we know that Lanza is survived by his father Peter and brother Ryan, whoever claimed his body wished to remain anonymous. Adam Lanza’s final resting place is also being kept secret.
On Dec. 14 Adam Lanza shot and killed his mother Nancy in their Newtown, Conn. home, and then shot his way into Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown and proceeded to shoot and kill twenty 6- and 7-year-olds and six school staffers before putting a bullet in his own head.
Conn. State Medical Examiner Carver concluded that Adam Lanza’s death was indeed a suicide but is waiting for the final toxicology tests to be completed before closing the books on Lanza’s case.
In addition he has asked geneticists from the University of Connecticut to study Lanza's DNA for any mutations or other abnormalities that could shed light on his motivation for the shootings.
Adam Lanza has been estranged from his father Peter for the last few years. Carver would not say whether or not it was a family member that claimed Adam Lanza’s remains.
Update: The Associated Press reported around noon today that Peter Lanza, Adam Lanza’s estranged father, claimed the body of his son. The word came down via a family spokesperson.
