Rev. David Wilkerson, who founded Times Square Megachurch and World Challenge Ministries, was tragically killed in a traffic accident in Texas yesterday. The 79-year old accomplished pastor was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife Gwen currently is in ICU at the ETMC Tyler Trauma Center in fair condition.http://www.cbn.com/cbnnews/us/2011/April/Rev-David-Wilkerson-Killed-in-Tx-Car-Crash/
Rev. Wilkerson also was the originator and guiding force behind Teen Challenge Ministries, a Jesus based drug intervention program that has a better success record than other rival drug programs. There are currently over 110 Teen Challenge Chapters in the United States.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Wilkerson
The accident happened on US Highway 175 when the car in which the Wilkersons was traveling veered into the oncoming lane of traffic. The truck driver saw the car and attempted to move out of the path but collided head-on with the Wilkerson vehicle.
Ironically Rev. Wilkerson posted on his blog April 27th, the day of this death, which was titled “When All Means Fail”, he attempted to encourage those to “hold fast” and remain strong in their faith.
“To those going through the valley and shadow of death, hear this word: weeping will last through some dark, awful nights, and in that darkness you will soon hear the Father whisper, “I am with you,” wrote Wilkerson.
Many ministries were launched by the inspiration of Rev. Wilkerson, one being Life Challenge, and international ministry that uses a similar faith based approach to breaking down the bondages of substance abuse. Currently there are about 6 chapters in India inspired by the vision of Rev. Wilkerson.
Among his other talents, Rev. Wilkerson was also a Christian writer in authoring books "The Cross" and "Switchblade", both received acclaim from critics both in the religious and secular field.
Religious leaders from all over the world have been sending their condolances and offering prayers to the organizations founded by Rev. Wilkerson and the Wilkerson family.
