Religious discrimination at the Olympics

This years 2014 Sochi Winters Olympics in Russia, has been under scrutiny following speculation of the region showing religious discrimination toward the Islamic Muslims.

According to ALJAZEERA, Muslim particpants in the Winter Games have been referred to as a terrorist threat, and head-scarved "black widows. This claim follows coverage of the Sochi games mentioning Islam and Muslims exclusively in this form.

The international news site claims "while the Opening Ceremony showcased the well-crafted face of a "New Russia", age-old Russian hate toward both indigenous and visiting Muslims, are prominently displayed in Sochi."

However, the Russian deputy prime minister Dmitry Kozak insisted "that there was no discrimination against anyone based on their "religion or their sexuality or their nationality".

2014 Winter Olympics, officially known as the XXII Olympic Winter Games is a major international multi-sport event being held in Sochi, Russia in the tradition of the Winter Olympic Games.

Sochi was selected as the host city in July 2007, during the 119th IOC Session held in Guatemala City.
