This past Sunday, February 5th, 2012 Scout Sunday was celebrated during the Family Mass at Holy Name of Mary church in Valley Stream. The Cub and Boy Scouts were recognized for their many hours of dedicated service to the parish family of Holy Name of Mary.
During the 10:30 Family Mass, the Scouts led the procession and some received religious awards following the Homily, while proud parents gazed fondly and snapped photographs. The Light of Christ Medal recipients were Joseph Canestro, Nicholas Cavaliere, Sebastian Loor, Colin McAleer, Liam McCarren, Drew Mihalik, Anthony Prisinzano, Christopher Rakeman, Shawn Redhead, James Sharp, Joey Tomei and Christopher Ware. The Light of Christ Medal is awarded to Catholic Cub Scouts ages 6 and 7 who are learning to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
The Parvuli Dei Medal recipients were Ian Burke, Logan Eayres, Anthony Fernandez, Alessio Fratarcangeli, Matthew Lataille, Brannon Marin, Mateo Santos, Matthew Tineo, Nicholas Tineo and Frank Yenna. The Parvuli Dei Award (Children of God) is given to Boy Scouts aged 8 to 10 of the Catholic faith who have learned to exhibit the presence of God in their daily lives.
Following the Liturgy, a pancake breakfast was held in the school cafeteria to raise funds for the boys to “keep up the good works”. Of course, Scout leaders and Scouts in uniform were free as a thank you for their dedication and hard work. Congratulations to all of the Scouts, leaders, and recipients and their parents.
