Parish member Barbara Morgan is displaying her works of religious art at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in the Ave Maria Parish Hall. This display includes eleven paintings of religious scenes. The oil paintings include Christ at his crucifixion, Mary, and the last supper.
The style is unique. It is a Renaissance scene, but the style is more iconic. The figures are shaded, yet appear flat. The lips and nose are narrow, as in the Iconic style that symbolizes that the figures were not concerned with earthly needs. The eyes and forehead are large, symbolizing that the person was concerned with study, wisdom, and spiritual concerns.
Some of the paintings on display were painted completely from images that Barbara received through inspiration and the Sacred Scriptures. She sees her work as a prayer. An idea comes to her; she sketches what she sees and then puts them on canvas.
The art exhibit runs from Feb 15 to March 22. The hall is open Monday through Friday from 9-12 and from 1-4. The parish hall is located at 1212 E. Moreno in East Hill, Pensacola FL.
Prints of the paintings can be ordered by filling out the form that is available at the display.
