Religion: Students swap Bibles for porn. At the University of Texas San Antonio campus, a college atheist group is offering students pornography in exchange for Bibles, Korans, or other religious texts. The group, Atheist Agenda, calls the exchange "Smut for Smut".
Group members claim that the Bible and other religious texts are just as as smutty as any pornography. According to the group, the Bible contains all sorts of misogyny, violence, torture and questionable sexual practices.
The atheists are right. The Bible, the Koran and other religious texts are often filled with the most disgusting, degrading of images: genocide, infanticide, incest and the sexual abuse of children.
As one might expect, the exchange is prompting prayers and protests from Christians. Some have gone so far as to accuse the atheist group of being intolerant and hateful. One must laugh at the irony of such claims. After hundreds of years of cruel and brutal intolerance and hatred for everything not Christian, Christians have very little credibility when they try to play the victim card.
Indeed, the “Smut for Smut” campaign required police protection from angry Christians attempting to tear down signs and intimidate the atheists. Despite the complaints, University officials say the atheist group has the right to conduct the swap.
UTSA spokesman David Gabler says, "As long as students are not violating laws or violating the Constitution, they have the freedom of speech and assembly."
Here in Portland, Oregon, The Reed Secular Alliance, promoting free thought at Reed College Since 2005, is an active student group open to atheists, agnostics, humanists and free thinkers.

An agnostic, in the true sense of the word, I can truly, truly respect despite my own faith... but atheists, just like someone of faith mind you, propose your own idea that can never be falsified in a test, that an experiment can never be devised for, and that calls on faith in the absence of proof.
Atheism doesn't necessarily mean a belief in no gods. It can also mean a) a disbelief in gods b) a lack of belief in gods. These are three different things. Atheism and agnosticism are not mutually exclusive. You are describing a gnostic atheist, while most of us are actually agnostic atheists; we don't claim that there is no god, we just acknowledge that it is impossible to tell either way and that religious belief in either a god or no god is ridiculous.

If porn is only existent for men then why is it that porn has categories entirely devoted to the female orgasm? Why is it more likely for lesbians to practice bondage and masochism than straight couples? Why do lesbians and straight women watch porn? Why is there correlative data showing that instances of rape are the highest in states with less internet access than those without (yes, the internet is now the main vehicle of porn). Now look at the bible which states that upon the taking of a city the Israelites may do as they please with women (I cannot remember the verse)? Why does the bible say rape is OK as long as the man marries her (no matter if she is willing)(Deuteronomy 22:28)? I'd much prefer to watch happy people have sex than read about genocide and rape at the behest of "the almighty".

Pornography objectifies women. Religion also encourages the oppression of women - isn't atheism supposed to be opposed to that? I'm an atheist and also a feminist, and I think this campaign is rubbish.

How does porn objectify women? There are equal number of male and female parts in the porn industry. It's not about objectifying anything. It's simply an easy way to make money. Sex sales and the women in porns know that. I'm also an atheist & think this is of the funniest things I've ever heard. I think it's funny how whenever Atheist do something that religious people don't agree with they claim it to be "intolerant" yet some how there always has to be police around to keep "good Christians" under control, so they don't hurt anyone. Sounds pretty intolerant to me.

What is most interesting is how many New Testi-ment texts have contradictions in the preceeding verse, so I'll thrust with verse 25 and they parry with verse 24, and I counter with verse 23 and so on and so. Joe Atwill's "Caesers Messiah" suggests christianity is the joke of all jokes, even greater than the obvious truths of pastafarianism, subgenuis or the Discordians. The trouble with amateurs quoting scripture is they cut themselves, or like giving a toddler a loaded gun. Very dangerous. Passages about judgment have to be interpreted in context according to specific circumstances. Scholars understand this. People only interested in rabble rousing do not understand, purposefully. Exchanging Bibles for Porn? That's like exchanging a nine-course gourmet meal for a steaming plate of cat excrement. Very collegiate. Question: what do the atheists gain, other than bad press and ridicule? This is certainly a great way for them to make complete fools of themselves. Meanwhile, the God of love continues reaching out to sinful people, inviting them to turn from self destruction and embrace his promise of great living on earth, and eternal bliss beyond. (Life is so much better when you let Jesus run the show folks. Ask any one of us who used to wallow in the dark side.)
